What is the Ping G430 Max fairway wood, and who is it for?

The G430 Max is the standard, forgiveness-oriented fairway in Ping's G430 line — the head built for the widest range of players. Ping's own framing is that you can size up a long approach with confidence that the club will get you home.

Two technologies do the work, and both are aimed at the same problem: fairway woods are hit off the deck, where there is no tee to help you.

  • Carbonfly Wrap crown. Carbon in the crown frees weight that Ping repositions to move the centre of gravity closer to the force line. That produces higher launch and longer carries — exactly what a club hit off the turf needs.
  • FaceWrap Technology. A variable-thickness maraging steel face that wraps into the sole and crown of the stainless head. Because the face extends beyond the front of the club, more of it can flex at impact, which raises ball speed and launch together.

It also carries Ping's Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel — eight positions, giving ±1.5° of loft and up to 3° flatter lie. That is more adjustment than most fairway woods offer, and it matters here because a fairway wood that sits slightly wrong at address is one you will not trust.

It suits you if you find fairway woods hard to get airborne from the deck, or if you have a 3 wood you only ever use off a tee and want one you actually trust from the ground.

Which loft should I pick?

This is the question fairway wood buyers get wrong most often, so it is worth answering properly:

Ping does not simply add loft across the set — the head gets smaller, shorter and more upright as loft increases, which is what makes the higher-lofted heads genuinely easier to hit rather than just weaker versions of the 3 wood:

  • 15° (3 wood) — 176cc head, 43" standard, 56.0° lie. The largest and longest of the three. Most useful off the tee on tight holes and on long par 5s from a clean lie. Hardest to hit from the turf.
  • 18° (5 wood) — 165cc head, 42½" standard, 56.5° lie. The most versatile loft, and the one many players get more use out of than a 3 wood. The smaller, shorter head is easier to control from the deck.
  • 21° (7 wood) — 154cc head, 42" standard, 57.0° lie. Increasingly chosen over a long iron or hybrid. Launches high, lands soft, works from poor lies. The smallest and most upright head of the three, which is why it is the easiest to strike.

If you already carry a driving iron or a long hybrid, the 18° or 21° will fill a gap the 15° will not. Email customerservice@thetourtruck.com with your current set makeup and we will tell you which loft we would build.

How much does a custom-built G430 Max fairway wood cost compared to new?

Custom G430 Max fairway builds start at $249.99. Premium aftermarket shafts are available at additional cost, so your final price depends on the shaft you select on this page.

Both the head and the shaft are pre-owned, and that is where the saving comes from. On fairway woods specifically, the shaft is the component most often left as an afterthought — which is why so many golfers own a 3 wood they cannot hit. Buying that shaft pre-owned is what makes fitting one properly affordable.

Put together, a custom-built G430 Max fairway from us commonly lands at around 50% of what the equivalent new build costs at retail — new head, new aftermarket shaft, fitted and assembled. The exact gap depends on the specification you choose.

What condition are your pre-owned G430 Max heads in?

Every custom club build is offered in three head grades:

Good — clear signs of play. Sole wear, face marks and scratching are visible, and the finish may show wear at the edges. All blemishes are cosmetic and do not affect playability at all.

Very Good — normal signs of play, above average for the model. Light signs of use such as sole scratches and light crown or face marks consistent with a head of its age.

Excellent — minimal signs of play. A clean crown with light contact marks on the sole.

Whichever grade you choose, every head is inspected and authenticated by our team before it goes into a build. The photographs on this listing may not be of the exact head you receive, but please refer to our condition guide and the example condition photos provided.

How long does a custom G430 Max fairway build take, and how do I specify it?

Allow 1–2 weeks for all custom club orders.

You select the loft, shaft brand, shaft model and flex on this page — choose a shaft brand and the model and flex options for that brand appear. Everything you need to specify a standard-length build is on the page.

For any length alterations, email customerservice@thetourtruck.com after placing your order. If we do not hear from you, we build the club to standard length with the shaft you selected.
